[lang_ie]Bhí an ócáid seo ar siúl roinnt seachtainí ó shin anois ag an ghalfchúrsa anseo i Leitir Ceanainn agus is é Paddy McDaid ó Choláiste Ghleann na Finne ar ndóigh a bhí mar chaptaen don tsochaí don bhliain seo 2012. Beidh Paddy réidh sa phost seo mar Chaptaen tar éis na hócáide deiridh ag deireadh mí na Nollag nuair a bhíonn an Cruinniú Ceann Bliana ann agus roghnóidh duine úr don bhliain 2013. Bhí slua mór i láthair don Duais an Chaptaein agus in ainneoin na haimsire agus na coinníollacha gaoithe ar an lá bhí roinnt gailf den scoth ar taispeáint. Nuair a bhí na scóir ag an deireadh curtha lena chéile ní raibh na torthaí furasta a dhéanamh cruinn. Cén fáth?? Bhuel, seo mar a bhí – bhí an dá scór ab fhearr ar an lá ag beirt – sin Ciarán Mac Phaidín ó Choláiste Chineál Eoghain i mBun Cranncha le 38 pointe agus ansin bhí Paul McGinley ó Choláiste Ghleann na Finne le 37 pointe. Siocair go raibh Ciarán ar an lá mar deibiútant leis an Chumann Gailf agus bhí Paul ar ndóigh ag glacadh páirt don chéad uair i mbliana – de réir rialacha an tsochaí bhí orthu bogadh síos go dtí an 2ú agus an 3ú háit ar an lá seo. Ach ní sin an scéal iomlán.
D’fhág seo an duine a tháinig sa 3ú háit mar an buaiteoir ach cé a bhí ann ach an Captaen é féin (Paddy McDaid) tar éis do 35 pointe a bhaint amach. Fuair Paddy é féin anois in áit chiotach mar ní maith le captaein ar bith an bua a bhaint amach ar an lá seo aige féin, agus mar sin sheas Paddy siar agus bhí an bua go hiomlán ag an duine a bhí san 4ú áit – sin Kevin Murphy ó Bhun Cranncha le 34 pointe. Bhí Jim McGlynn san 5ú áit le 33 pointe.
Mar sin, déanfaidh muid comhghairdeas le Kevin as an ghradam is airde den bhliain ghailf a bhua – Duais an Chaptaein.
Bhí na duaiseanna eile ar an lá seo furasta a shocrú agus ba seo iad.

[lang_en-uk]The society recently held its annual captains prize in Letterkenny Golf Club. This year’s society captain is Mr Paddy Mc Daid of Finn Valley College. Paddy’s time as Captain will complete at the AGM after the final outing of the year in December. Well done Paddy for your efforts during 2012.
There was a large turnout on the day and in spite of the windy conditions there was some excellent golf on display. When the scores were tallied at the end of the round there was some head scratching to be done, not least by this reporter!
So here goes, pay attention…
Top scorers on the day were society debutant, Ciaran Mc Fadden of Coláiste Cineal Eoin in Buncrana on 38pts and Paul Mc Ginley formerly of Finn Valley College, making his first outing of the year on 37pts. Great shooting from the two lads, however, in accordance with society rules, neither player could qualify for the captain’s prize given that it was their first outing of the year. As a result, both members were demoted into 2nd and 3rd places respectively.
This left the player finishing third as the winner. However. The Captain himself found himself in the awkward position as victor of his own prize after a fine round of 35pts. After some consultation Paddy decided to pass his winners prize onto the player in 4th place on the day, namely Kevin Murphy of Buncrana on 34pts. Jim Mc Glynn filled the final place in the top five with 33pts. Congratulations then goes to Kevin on winning the most prestigious prize of the year.
The remaining prizes, thankfully, were much more straightforward.
