Bhí freastal maith ann don ócáid speisialta seo ar an lá idir mhúinteoirí, dhaltaí, thuismitheoirí, baill don Choiste Gairmoideachais Co Dhún na nGall, Baill den Bhord Bainistíochta scoile agus ionadaithe éagsúla thart fan oileán chomh maith.Cuireadh tús leis na himeachtaí i ndiaidh cruinnithe an Choiste Gairmoideachais a bhí ar siúl sa scoil idir 10.30 r.n. -12.30 i.n. Labhair Máire Uí Dhochartaigh, Príomhoide na scoile ar dtús agus labhair sí faoi stair na scoile agus fan méid atá bainte amach ag an scoil ó 1990, an bhliain a osclaíodh an scoil. Fuair an scoil dhá mhéadú bhreise (an chéad cheann, trí sheomra ranga sa bhreis leis an tseirbhís Ghaeilge a reáchtáil sa scoil ag tús na bliana 2010 agus an dara ceann anuraidh; foirgneamh a cuireadh suas sa bhliain 1990). Ghabh sí buíochas fosta leis na daoine uile a chuidigh agus a thacaigh go mór leis an scoil thar na blianta agus go háirithe, luaigh sí an t-uasal Seán Ó Longáin, Iar-phríomh Oifigeach Feidhmiúcháin an Choiste Gairmoideachais agus Póilín Uí Chomaic, Iar-Phríomhoide na scoile. Ba é Dáithí Alcorn an chéad duine eile a labhair ar son Bord Bainistíochta na Scoile. Labhair an bheirt acu fosta le Radio na Gaeltachta a bhí í láthair sa scoil ar an ócáid seo. Bhí cainteanna fosta ó Jim McGlynn thar ceann an Phríomh Oifigeach feidhmiúchán Máire Áine Uí Chatháin agus ó Martin Farren, Cathaoirleach an Choiste Gairmoideachais. Bhí lá ar dóigh ag gach aon duine i ndiaidh na gcainteanna. Ba é an tAthair Pat Ward bunadh an oileáin a bheannaigh na háiseanna úra in áit an tAthair John Joe Ó Dúbthaigh a bhí as láthair de bharr tinnis. I ndiaidh na mbeannachtaí gearr Póilín Uí Chomaic an ribín le cuidiú ó Martin Farren agus bhí ceol curtha ar fáil ó Bhanna Píoba Ceoil Oileán Árainn Móir. Ba iad na tuismitheoirí le cuidiú ó ‘Beár Ó Luaitheirí’ ar an oileán a chuir sólaistí ar fáil d’achan duine le críoch a chur le himeachtaí an lae.[/lang_ie]
[lang_en-uk]The official opening of the new school buildings at Gairmscoil Mhic Diarmada took place in the school on Tuesday 23rd May 2012. This special occasion was well attended by teachers, pupils, parents, members of Co. Donegal VEC, members of the schools’ B.O.M. and also various representatives from the island community. Proceedings commenced after the meeting of Co. Donegal VEC which took place in the school between 10.30 a.m. -12.30p.m. Mary Doherty, Principal, of the school was the first of a series of four speakers and she spoke about the history of the school and of its progress and achievements since the school first opened in 1990. The school obtained the extensions (the first extension; three extra classrooms to facilitate the operation of an Irish service in the school in early 2010 and the second extension late last year; a permanent building to replace the old prefabricated buildings which arrived on site in October 1990). She also thanked all those who helped and supported the school over the years and in particular she commended the efforts of Seán Ó Longáin, former CEO of Co. Donegal VEC and of Póilin Uí Chomaic former Principal of the school.
David Alcorn spoke on behalf of the schools’ Board of Management and both the Principal and Councillor Alcorn spoke with Radio na Gaeltachta who also attended the occasion. There were also contributions from Jim McGlynn who represented the C.E.O. Mary Ann Kane and from Martin Farren, chairperson of Co. Donegal V.E.C. A very enjoyable day was had by all in attendance of this memorable occasion. Fr. Pat Ward from Arranmore island blessed the new buildings representing Fr. John Joe Duffy, who was absent due to illness. After the blessing, Póilín Uí Chomaic in conjunction with Martin Farren cut the ribbon to officially open the new buildings and music was provided by the Arranmore Pipe band. Food was presented by both parents and by ‘Early’s Bar’ on the island and this concluded the day’s proceedings.[/lang_en-uk]
