Donegal’s Regional Adult Literacy Coalition has launched its 2024 Action Plan today on International Literacy Day, 8 September.
With one in five adults struggling to read and understand everyday text, one in four struggling to manage numbers in everyday situations and one in two who find digital tasks difficult, the Coalition has developed an action plan which will see the fifteen member organisations working together to reduce the number of adults across Donegal with unmet literacy skills.
The focus of the Action Plan is on collaboration between member organisations who know that literacy matters and that literacy can change lives. These organisations have committed to working together to make a real difference to those most in need of literacy support, developing health and financial literacy support, reducing stigma while raising awareness, promoting Plain English and encouraging innovative approaches.
Coalition members include:
- Donegal Education and Training Board (ETB)
- Donegal County Library Service (Donegal County Council)
- Donegal Home School Community Liaison’s (HSCL) Network
- Donegal Family Resource Centre (FRC) Network
- Donegal Local Development Company
