Donegal ETB has confirmed the appointment of Ms Emma Kane as the new Deputy Principal of Coláiste na Carraige. She replaces Ms Caroline Uí Ghallchóir who is taking up the role of Principal in the school.
Prior to taking up her post as Deputy Principal, Emma worked as a Maths and Business Teacher in Coláiste na Carraige. She graduated from University of Galway in 2008, after completing a Bachelors of Arts Degree and a Postgraduate Diploma in Education. This was followed by three years of teaching experience in Sydney, Australia. Upon her return she completed a Master of Arts in Learning and Teaching from Atlantic Technological University, Donegal.
Coláiste na Carraige is one of six Irish medium schools managed by Donegal ETB. It has a school population in excess of two hundred students, with a teaching staff of over twenty and another seven support staff members, inclusive of three Special Needs Assistants (SNAs).
Emma said of her appointment, “I am delighted to be appointed to the permanent position of Deputy Principal of Coláiste na Carraige, having held the role in an acting capacity since October 2022. I’ve been fortunate to have spent my teaching career since 2011 in this wonderful school and I am looking forward to the challenge that this role will bring as the school grows and develops in the years to come.”
In congratulating Emma on her appointment, Donegal ETB’s Director of Schools Dr Martin Gormley said, “I am delighted to warmly welcome Emma as the new Deputy Principal at Coláiste na Carraige. With her impressive background in education and proven leadership capabilities, I am confident that she will bring valuable expertise and contribute to the continued growth and success of the school. I look forward to supporting the senior management team of Caroline Ui Gallachoir, Principal and Emma as Deputy Principal in the new academic year.”
Coláiste na Carraige is one of fifteen of the county’s twenty-seven post-primary schools under the management of Donegal ETB, the largest education and training provider in the county. Over 5,600 students attended Donegal ETB post-primary schools in 2022.
Emma takes up her appointment immediately.
