Over one hundred and thirty people from across Inishowen gathered in An Grianan Hotel, Burt on Thursday evening last, to receive a wide range of awards from Donegal ETB’s Further Education and Training (FET) Service.
Certificates were presented by the ETB to over one hundred and thirty adult students who had achieved certification in a range of full and part-time programmes over the last year. Many of these students completed their courses in the Buncrana Further Education and Training (FET) Centre and in community centres in Carndonagh, Drumfries, Greencastle, Malin Head and other parts of Inishowen.
Donegal ETB’s Chief Executive Anne McHugh said, “I would like to congratulate each and every one of the students here tonight on their achievements and acknowledge the work of our FET Service whose courses are designed to meet the needs of the local community here in Inishowen.”
Donegal ETB member, Cllr Rena Donaghey, congratulated each student on their achievement before presenting the awards for a range of subject areas including communications for the workplace, early childhood care and education, digital skills, employability skills with horticulture, English language information processing and business administration and supervisory management.
Cróna Gallagher, Director of FET with Donegal ETB, stated, “It’s fantastic to see so many students receiving awards here this evening. The certification they have received will now open up many more progression options to them within further education and training or the world of work.”
Many of these courses were co-funded by the Government of Ireland and the European Social Fund as part of the ESF Programme for Employability, Inclusion and Learning (PEIL) 2014-2020.
Roisin Doherty, Director of Inclusion with SOLAS which funds the ETB’s FET Service, highlighted how Donegal ETB’s FET courses and programmes of learning respond to the economic, cultural and social profile of the county.
In 2019, almost 12,000 students completed courses in more than 120 venues across the county, making Donegal ETB the largest FET provider in the county. Its wide range of courses can be found on the course finder section of its website (www.donegaletb.ie/coursefinder).
