Donegal ETB hosted its fifth annual awards ceremony in the Radisson Hotel, Letterkenny on Thursday 26 April. The judges had a tough job assessing this wonderful showcase of creativity and innovation taking place in ETB schools, centres and programmes across the county, which were a testament to the excellent teaching and learning taking place every day.
Forty-four entries were submitted from Donegal ETB’s schools, centres, programmes and services which was a substantial increase on last year. They were competing for an award in five categories: Science, Technology, Maths and Engineering (STEM); Healthy Living and Wellbeing; Further Education and Training; Arts and Culture and Innovation, Creativity and Entrepreneurship.
Donegal ETB would like to congratulate all the entrants and prize winners, all of whom received a certificate of achievement from Donegal ETB Chief Executive Anne McHugh and the winners (listed below) received a plaque to mark their win.
Donegal ETB Director of Schools, Dr Martin Gormley noted that ‘Our Annual Awards is a celebration of all that is great about our schools, centres, programmes and services – it showcases the creativity and innovation that takes place in teaching and learning every day. The Awards allow our students, learners and teaching staff to showcase the wide variety of topics they cover during the course of a year to a wider audience. Congratulations to all the entrants and to the winners.’
Chief Executive Anne McHugh said, ‘I’ve been blown by the standard and the enthusiasm of the students – it was just fantastic. It was wonderful to listen to their ideas and their hard work and everything that they had done. I’ve been wonderfully surprised by the fantastic achievements on display today.’
The awards also included a performance by students from Crana College, Buncrana.
