Last week over 1,000 adults and young people attended Donegal ETB’s annual Further Education and Training (FET) Fair in Letterkenny to find out about the many exciting educational opportunities are on offer in County Donegal.
There was something for everyone, part-time and full-time options, including basic skills, training for employment, Apprenticeships, upskilling and third level options. ETB tutors and current students were available on the day to share their experiences, display their skills and learning (such as hairdressing, beauty, plumbing, welding and carpentry) and answer questions about ETB FET courses. Universities, I.T.’s and Colleges of Further Education were there to offer information on options for those considering progressing their studies. For those unsure about their options, Donegal ETB Guidance staff were available to provide advice and guidance.
In addition to education and training providers, support services such as Citizens Information, the Department of Social Protection and SUSI Student Grants were available to share their knowledge and expertise on what supports are available to enable a return to learning.
Two exciting workshops were also provided by Grace Ann McGarvey on using Social Media for job searching in her ‘Thinking Outside the Box’ seminar, while Lynn McLaughlin looked at ‘The Hidden Job Market’ and the importance of networking to give a competitive edge in job searching.
