Twelve Donegal ETB school projects have qualified for the 59th BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition. The event takes place in the RDS, Dublin from 11-14 January 2023. The Exhibition is designed to inspire young people to better understand the opportunities that a career in a STEM-related field can offer.
The twelve projects come from thre schools, the Abbey Vocational School in Donegal Town, Coláiste Ailigh in Letterkenny and Moville Community College. Twenty-five entries in total have qualified from Co Donegal. The projects that have qualified are:
Abbey Vocational School, Donegal Town (1-5 Individual entries; 6 Group entry)
- Using silica nanoparticles to create self-sustaining antimicrobial surface coatings (Chemical, Physical and Mathematical Sciences)
- Back Air Gravitational Support -BAGS (Technology)
- Seasonal variation in the antimicrobial activity of native Irish seaweeds (Biological and Ecological)
- The possibility and profitability of introducing Donegal to the Irish national rail network to service a social, economical and environmental need (Social and Behavioural Sciences)
- What colour is pi? An analysis of patterns in the visible representation of number sequences using colours observed by people with synesthesia (Chemical, Physical and Mathematical Sciences)
- An investigation into the most effective household agents at preventing fungal mould on fruit (Biological and Ecological)
Coláiste Ailigh, Letterkenny (1 Individual entry; 2-5 Group entries)
- “Le dó nó gan a dó” – Forbairt retardant dóiteáin éiceabhách chun caipeadh tinte fiáine a rialú (Chemical, Physical and Mathematical Sciences)
- Fiosrú ar cumas atá ag plandaí eagsula cosc a chur ar chreimeadh uisce (Biological and Ecological)
