During the week of 18-22 September staff and students from the Hannah Arendt Gymnasium School, Barsinghausen (near Hanover), Germany visited Gairmscoil Mhic Diarmada, Arranmore Island and took part in activities organised by the school.
The visiting students, aged 15 -17 years, attended class in the school and also participated in a range of activities and workshops alongside the school’s Transition Year class group during the week including creative writing, motivation and confidence workshops, cookery classes and sports events. The highlight of the week was a trip for both groups to Gartan Outdoor Education Centre on Tuesday 19 September.
Students were also afforded the opportunity to work in groups earlier in the week to discuss issues common to both groups e.g. education and political systems in both countries, family, friends, past-times and much more.
The programme was evaluated and the outcome was so positive for both groups that it is proposed to run the programme again in 2018.
