EU Code Week 2017 kicked off a week early for Donegal ETB today when staff from four of our schools, Abbey Vocational School, Coláiste na Carraige, Crana College and Errigal College, came together for a Coding Initiative cluster day for staff to support them in rolling out cutting edge teaching in the area of coding (pictured). Coding has been introduced to their schools as part of the new Junior Cycle reforms under the new ‘Junior Cycle Coding in Action’ initiative. The cluster day was led by Crana College staff member Thomas Boyle who is a JCT Coding Associate. In 2016, two of Donegal ETB’s schools, the Abbey Vocational School in Donegal Town and Crana College in Buncrana were among only twenty-two schools nation-wide to introduce coding to their schools as part of the new Junior Cycle reforms.
EU Code Week takes place from 7-22 October. It’s a grassroots initiative which aims to bring coding and digital literacy to everybody in a fun and engaging way. Keep an eye on Donegal ETB’s Twitter and Facebook pages (@DonegalETB) next week for updates on EU Code Week activities.
