Donegal ETB has launched its fourth annual Enterprise Day for post-primary schools and Youthreach centres from across the county in Letterkenny Institute of Technology. The aim of the day is to introduce the concept of entrepreneurship in a fun way to young people with the support of Donegal entrepreneurs.
This exciting event takes place on Wednesday 18 October. Last year a total of twenty-two teams from seventeen schools and three Youthreach centres from across the county participated.
The day involves each team developing a product on which they are judged in a Dragon’s Den-type set up, including pitching their product to panels of business judges. Teams are given a business mentor and an LYIT business studies student to guide them throughout the day. They will hear from guest speakers on entrepreneurship success and failure and get tips on how to pitch a business idea. The day will also include fun activities, ice breakers and team building games with staff from Donegal ETB’s Gartan Outdoor Education and Training Centre. Highland Radio’s Lee Gooch will act as MC for the morning.
Donegal ETB Chief Executive Anne McHugh, in looking forward to the event, commented: “this is one of Donegal ETB’s keynote creative events for students and learners across the county, which also encourages the key skill of entrepreneurship amongst young people. We’re grateful to the host of business people and entrepreneurs who give up their time on the day to support the students and learners.”
Paul Hannigan, LYIT President noted that: “We are delighted to be involved with Donegal ETB in supporting this annual event for young people from across the county.”
Last year’s winner of the Enterprise Day was Carndonagh Community School, while Crana College, Buncrana and the Rosses Community School came second and third.
