Donegal Education and Training Board (ETB) wish to congratulate all our students and learners on receiving their Junior Certificate results for 2017. This is a historic day as this is the first year the English specification was assessed in a different format. The grading system for English is different to the other subjects ranging from Distinction; Higher Merit; Merit; Achieved; Partially Achieved and Not Graded.
Speaking after receiving news of the results, Ms Anne McHugh, Chief Executive, congratulated all the students for their efforts to date in the education system. She also paid tribute to the management, teaching staff and support staff across the ETB Schools and Colleges and who helped guide the students during the first three years in post primary education. She also congratulated eight adult learners who completed their Junior Certificate CSPE subject. The Further Education and Training (FET) Service staff who guided them through this were also commended.
Speaking during the morning, Ms McHugh said, “Comhghairdeas do na daltaí go léir. Your achievements to date are excellent and I wish you every success as you progress into the Senior Cycle. The Junior Certificate represents a valuable footstep on the National Framework of Qualifications”.
Dr Martin Gormley, Director of Schools, Donegal ETB also acknowledged the success of the students and the staff in the Schools and Colleges saying, “On initial analysis, I am delighted with the results of the Junior Certificate 2017 students who received their results today in the fifteen post-primary Schools and Colleges managed by the ETB. I congratulate all recipients and acknowledge the huge amount of work that is happening in our schools. It is encouraging to see how the 15 ETB schools have embraced the principles of the new Junior Cycle approach. It is very much a team effort with management, teaching staff and support staff working closely with parents in helping the young person to realise their full potential.”
Dr Gormley went on to urge all the young students celebrating their results to be mindful of their personal safety during the celebrations, “I know many students will be anxious to celebrate their results. It is important that students are mindful of their personal safety and that parents ensure this message is reinforced in sitting down with the student during the course of the day”.
Students will now either embark upon a Transition Year Programme or the Leaving Certificate Cycle in the fifteen Donegal ETB Schools and Colleges, while its adult learners have a range of Further Education and Training options available to them.
