Congratulations to Letterkenny Youthreach who won the annual Youthreach Masterchef Final 2016 on 20 October. This annual competition takes place in each of the six Youthreach centres across the county in September and October to pick a centre team and culminates in the county final in Letterkenny each year. Teams of two from each centre competed to create a main course and dessert on a budget of €20. The final was judged by Highland Radio Breakfast Show Presenter John Breslin and Cróna Gallagher, Director of Further Education and Training (FET), Donegal ETB. The judges, who had a tough job picking a winning teams, praised the very high quality of the dishes made by all the learners.
The winning dishes made by Team Letterkenny (Naisha Weir and Shannon Hayes) were spiced chicken kebabs with homemade sides and dips followed by giant cookie and ice-cream. The runners up were Team Gortahork (Pierce Butler and Sinead Flanagan) who made organic salmon tarator served with baby fried potatoes and asparagus wrapped in Parma ham followed by creamy lemon tart.
The other teams competing in the final were Team Ballyshannon (Naomi Fee and Jimmy Ward) who made roast stuffed pepper and potatoes wedges followed by apple sponge; Team Buncrana (Chloe Doherty and Chenise Mc Laughlin) who made chicken korma with savoury rice followed by baked apple and berry crumble with white chocolate and strawberries and Team Lifford (Shay Mitchell and Ryan Lyndsay) who made Asian chicken stir fry followed by apple crumble with custard sauce.
