Coláiste na Carraige started a school exchange with the Morike Gymnasium school in Germany two years ago. In 2014 eleven students from each school took part. This year 21 students from each school took part. The German school is based in Esslingen, which is a city beside Stuttgart, hence the visit to the Daimler Museum, which is highly recommended. The German students came to Carrick for a week last May. We went on the return visit from 29th June to 6th July.
On the last day, there was a to be a major coup/celebration in the school of the exchange, in fact the Irish Ambassador to Germany, Michael Collins, was to attend along with the Mayor of Esslingen Dr. Jurgen Zieger and the Irish Honorary Consul to Baden-Wurttemberg Dr. Wolfgang Hafele. Unfortunately, we became one of the first victims of BREXIT, all the Irish European Ambassadors were recalled to Ireland for a meeting on that day because of it. Then at the last minute the Mayor of Esslingen cancelled. So only the Honorary Consul attended. Michael Collins has promised to go to the school at another time
