Starting Thursday 28th January, the Donegal Music Education Partnership (DMEP) are setting up a new Inishowen Junior Choir with rehearsals to take place in Crana College, Buncrana. Weekly rehearsal times are 4.30pm-6pm and the fee until June is just e50.

Ruth McPhillips, who will be conducting the Inishowen Junior Choir

The conductor is Ruth McPhillips from Derry. She has BA and Master’s degrees in music from Ulster University and works professionally as a singer, tutor and musical director. She has years of experience leading groups and choirs.

Singing as part of a choir is lots of fun. Your child will learn new songs, make new friends and get to perform in various venues in the county. For our big concerts we will join with the other DMEP Junior Choirs from Carrick, Dungloe and Letterkenny to make one big Donegal Junior Choir.

During weekly rehearsals children will learn vocal techniques and musicianship through singing different styles of music including World music (e.g. African, Hebrew and folk songs), pop songs, contemporary songs and classical choral repertoire. Group singing helps children develop greater listening skills and builds confidence and self-esteem. Singing in a choir is also a perfect stepping stone towards individual voice lessons. Singers can also progress into our Donegal Youth Choir.

Come along on Thursday 28th or contact DMEP on 07491 76293.
