Cuireadh BEO lena chéile mar eagraíocht sa bhliain 2009 leis na daltaí idirbhliana ó trí scoil i Leitir Ceanainn agus tá fás agus forbairt air ó shin ar aghaidh. Tá áthas agus bród ar an Choiste Gairmoideachais bheith páirteach leis an Chomórtas seo arís i mbliana – leis an ardán nuálach agus ábhartha atá cruthaithe acu do cheoltóirí anseo in Éirinn agus an cur chun cinn an teanga Ghaeilge i measc na ndaoine óga. Tá clárama leagtha amach anseo ar na príomhdátaí atá (cuid acu thart) ach an chuid is fearr le teacht ar ndóigh. Sé Gairmcholáiste Bhaile an Droichid ó Loch Garman a bhí mar bhuaiteoirí anuraidh agus rinneadh an seoladh oifigiúil ar Chomórtas BEO i mbliana ansin ar an 19ú Deireadh Fómhair. Tá roinnt pictiúir taobh thíos ar seo fós.Tá ceardlann ar siúl i rith na seachtaine seo (12-16 Samhain) darbh ainm “Saolsráide” san Ionad Cultúrtha Réigiúnach anseo i Leitir Ceanainn faoi stiúradh an t-ealaíontóir cáiliúil Keith Winter ó Londain agus beidh seó iomlán den mhéid a baineadh amach oíche Aoine seo ag 7.30 i.n. agus tá fáilte roimh chách. Beidh macasamhail na bannaí ceoil More than Conquerors agus Not Squares ag glacadh páirt oíche Aoine agus tá taispeántas san Ionad oscailte don phobal. Tá an spriocdháta le hiontráil ar an Chomórtas BEO 2013 oscailte go dtí an Luan 26 Samhain agus ar an 7ú lá Nollag beidh gig agus ceardlann eile ar siúl i Leitir Ceanainn (Ionad Cultúrtha Réigiúnach ) agus tá an Babhta Ceannais le bheith ann ar an Aoine (15 Márta) roimh Lá Fhéile Pádraig 2013.

With a total prize fund of €10,000 and a first prize of €5,000 for the school that runs the best live event! BEO is funded and supported by Donegal VEC, Donegal County Council, Foras na Gaeilge. BEO began a few short years ago in 2009 here in Letterkenny when the transition year students of three local schools developed the idea and this has gone from strength to strength since. County Donegal VEC are proud to be associated with BEO once again this year – with the highly innovative and relevant platform it creates for to promote Irish musicians and also as a promotion of the Irish Language among the young people of today. This year’s timetable of events has already begun with several local events and the official launch completed at Bridgetown Vocational College, Co.Wexford on 19th October last and who were worthy
champions of last year’s event. This week also (12-16th November) there is a workshop (Saolsráide) underway in the Regional Cultural Centre here in Letterkenny under the guidance of renowned London based artist, Keith Winter. This workshop will see students from different ethnic backgrounds create their own works of art inspired by the streets of Letterkenny. The completed works will be unveiled during a live music event in the Centre on Friday evening next 16th at 7.30 p.m.- acts performing will include More than Conquerors and Not Squares and open to the general public.
The closing date for entries to this year’s BEO Competition is Monday 26 November– with a further local gig and workshop on the 7th December and the National Final scheduled for Friday 15th March – the weekend of St.Patrick’s Day 2013.
